No, really - PowerShell V1.0 IS released :-)

It turns out that having it available on a particular day means different things to different people.  After all, a day has 24 hours in it.  Add the fact that we announced in Barcelona which is 9 hours off Redmond time and you've got 33 hours of interpretation.  :-)

# Question: Migration from MPE JCL to Powershell

I've been fascinated by the build up to the release of PowerShell and been investigating it's use in a project for a client.

I'm investigating how to migrate an HP3000/MPE JCL to a PowerShell script.  

I'm a scripting novice [still in e-diapers :o)] and would grateful for for recommendations and insight into what can be done and how.  Advice PLEASE!

Is PowerShell (Scripting) capable of doing BIOS Updates (read-write)? For example, updating time & date for computer(s) with a powershell script?

Yes, I can download the Windows 2003 and Windows XP SP2 versions however when I try for the documentation all I get is a 404 error from http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/6/2/56279e8d-5c68-40fb-8937-589b6a6afa1c/PowerShellDocumentationPack.zip

I was impressed by Jeffrey's Monad presentation at last year's IT Forum.

Now that I have the release version I can't install it.  The installer tells me to remove the old beta version but there is no uninstaller for the beta.  Nothing in Add/Remove Programs or in the start menu or anything.  

How do I manually get rid of the beta in such a way as to make the release version installer happy?

Steve, Did you install RC2 version of PowerShell? RC2 of Windows PowerShell 1.0 is released as a Windows Update and is visible in Add / Remove programs if you select "Show Updates" checkbox. The RC2 PowerShell update will be under Windows XP - Software Updates ( for XP SP2 ) or Windows Server 2003 - Software Updates (for W2k3). The KB article number for RC2 release is KB925228.

Krishna, thank you.  That was non-obvious.  I suppose the earlier releases prepared me for it being a standard install, the switch to an update threw me off.  It makes sense that it will be released as an update.  I'd like to think there will be times I can sit at a client's computer and have it already installed rather than having to do it myself.

Congratulations with PowerShel RTM!

One question though: Why oh why did you drop MSI installation format?! It was so easy to distribute Monad with MSI. How do I suppose to deploy it in AD environment now?

At least make it available on WSUS/WU/MU then.

The short answer is that that was required to be an offical Windows component.
