On of the reasons I have holding back on Powershell is that it lacks remote execute.. am I right? That is I cannot do regular admin work remote, I have to do it locally, unless I use WMI or some instances like that.

And I wonder just how much of the uptake is because you *have* to have it for Exchange 2007...

And how much of the further development is becasue doing things like manipulating Exchange 2007 security permissions is a big pain in the bum with PowerShell.

Congratulations. I've been playing around with powershell since the early betas, and I just bought Windows PowerShell In Action so I can really get down and learn the nitty gritty details.

I'm on the same page as Mike Weller -- I would also love to see PowerShell be included in an upcoming Vista Service Pack.

I'm a heavy user of cmd.exe; I love getting things done from the command prompt. I was initially very excited to spend time learning PowerShell (back when it was still "monad"), but my enthusiasm lessened significantly when I learned that PowerShell was not going to be included with Windows Vista. This is because even a few years down the road when Vista has become the dominant business client machine OS, any machine that I sit down at other than my own is highly likely not to have PowerShell installed, and I'll just have to fall back on cmd.exe anyway.

Perhaps it isn't too late to remedy this situation? There's still a chance to put the power of PowerShell into "the typical Windows machine" of a few years from now by including it in Vista SP1!

Yes, PSH v1 itself does not have full featured remoting, except via WMI. It is apparently planned for v1.x or v2, but there's no ETA. There are some 3rd parties working on PSH remoting solutions though, as indicated in the blog post.

PowerShell seems to be an excellent product. One SIGNIFICANT piece that seems to be missing from Powershell and Microsoft functionality in general is GOOD (and I don't think wrappering FTP.EXE with PowerShell support is a solution) FTP functionality including security (i.e. SFTP, FTPS, etc...). FTP is so much a part of process automation. I know that nsoftware is working on something, but not sure if it can be made to encrypt username and password etc.. Plus it is going to cost money. Seems like a priority for Microsoft would be to add GOOD FTP functionality to PowerShell if they want Powershell to really take off.

Crap - I see that it is included with Longhorn, does that mean MS is only going to half ass finish Longhorn like they did Exchange 2007 and you have to be a programmer to do anything that they didn't bother to create MMC functions for?

I can see the joy of spending 20 minutes typing like a mad man just to ad a user to groups, change their password, add a users personal information in Active Directory for Longhorn.

I see PowerScript as Microsofts way of saying - you know what we've made enough money. Things are too simple with a gui interface, it's time you people moved on to Linux.

To say it's "included" in Longhorn is ambiguous. Is it going to be installed and available on the Start menu (or from the Run line) by default, or do you have to install it through Control Panel as an optional component? If it's not installed by default, it'll just be easier to use CMD for quick tasks and this will impede the adoption of PowerShell. If CMD is installed by default, then why not PowerShell when PS is safer than CMD?

Please make sure its installed by default in both Longhorn and the next service pack for Vista!

In keeping with the general trend of "don't install it unless you are going to use it", PowerShell is an optional component in Windows Server Longhorn.
