How far can you push Windows?….

As a member of technical support, it does seem I see users pushing our software to the limit more than most. But how does Windows really behave when pushed to the limit on resources? Well an excellent series of blog posts is available for you to find out. Start with this link by Mark Russinovich:

http://blogs.technet.com/markrussinovich/archive/2009/07/08/3261309.aspx

In this blog post, Mark talks about processes and thread but puts in links to his other posts on limits on memory.

If you want to know more about Windows internals, Mark’s blog feed is a must. In case you didn’t know it, Mark is the well-known author for the Windows Internal book series and the very famous sysinternals tool set (here is a quick tip. If you present much, try Zoomit).  The 5th Edition of the Windows Internals has just released and covers Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.

Reading Mark’s blog post has given me some thoughts about a similar set of posts for SQL Server.  I have some vacation coming up but perhaps when I return a blog post on pushing the limits of SQL Server is in order.
