Low Fat Software

There was an article about manditory software labeling. Do you think this is a good thing? Should all software declare, as does the food industry, what it contains? For example should the software tell you that it is recording your keystrokes, or that it collects personal information. What should the label contain. Is it the same for all types of software or does it vary by type, games vs business apps for example.

Is there value in having a standard easy to read label for consumers?

Most definatly!! This would be especially good for most of the "freeware/shareware" stuff which now has a TON of the ad-ware. On another subject, I don't know about you, but I am sick and tired of pop-up programs, spy-ware, and ad-ware. In my mind its a virus illegally installed on my PC, but the powers that be don't see it that way.

Maybe one day the Internet will be like it was in the early days... You only get a few e-mails a day, and pop-ups and automagically installed software which crashes/slows down you PC is non-existant.
