First European HD DVD Title is Open Source

Well, this should get the Slashdot folks on our side :-)

Andrew pinged me this morning about the Elephants Dream HD DVD release in Europe. The name was familiar to me, but I didn’t know why... had it won an Oscar(R) or something? No, it’s because Elephants Dream is the world’s first “open source” movie that lets anyone download the source materials to re-create (or modify) the movie as you wish.

From the looks of things on their web site, the release uses a lot of the cool HD DVD features that just don’t exist in Blu-ray, like animated menus and picture-in-picture commentaries.

Anyway, check it out on their website!

(More real tech blogs to come... yes it’s been a while... what can I say...)
