Following on from the last Partner TV video about High Performance Computing from Microsoft, Mike Pallot in this interview talks to Jeff Wierer who is the Senior Product Manager for Excel Services Worldwide and Ryan Waite the Principal Group Programme Manager for the CCS platform.

They talk about how businesses can take advantage of "old faithful" Excel in a High Performance Computing environment.  This is thanks to the fact Excel itself is now a server based product as well, so all the munching of highly complex calculations that would normally tie up a workstation for hours can be thrown at a cluster of servers and you will get a result back much more quickly.

Not to mention that the workstation's processor isn't being tied up by Excel client so the user is able to get on with other stuff.  There's an interesting press release about Excel Services and Compute Cluster Edition Server here.

Mike has some great resources on his blog about Excel Services, including whitepapers and Excel Services for dummies, although if you want to see all of his posts on the subject, check out this search.
