Retail inventory management - the age old debate
As any retailer can attest too, there has been an age old debate on inventory management and purchase order processing. The overlaps and different treatments for both inventory and po mgt between an accounting app and a point of sale app has existed as long as software vendors have been in business. The boundaries have actually been created by software makers as developers have either focused on the accounting treatment of inventory or on the point of sale treatment. As a result, retailers the world over, have always had to decide where to manage their books and where to manage their inventory for their business. Choosing any side had led to pretty manual (or kludgy) workarounds to keep their operations in sync.
I have personally seen this in dozens of businesses I have visited. And is a favorite question of mine to any retailer I meet (as my friends and family can vouch :-)).
