Livestrong

It's amazing what people will do to make a buck.  My new colleague Ali Alpay and I were discussing the trendy Livestrong bracelets that support cancer research through the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Live Strong.  He was amazed to find that people are selling them on eBay at a profit because it takes 3-4 weeks to get them from the foundation.  Is it ignorance, impatience, or the use of a PayPal account that drives these people?  The media picked up on the scandle a month later.

P.S.  I will not be accepting any more comments on this thread.  Livestrong Bracelets are Yellow.  Use the links provided above to donate.  And yes, the bracelets do give you super powers.

I think it's the marketplace that drives customers to these people.

If they didn't take a month to get them or were not so trendy. The market wouldn't exist. But it does and people are meeting it's need.

I personally believe that the livestrong bands are for a good cause. My grandmother died of lung cancer less than two months ago. I believe that anything to support any kind of cancer reasearch should beapproved by everyone. All these people who don't think these LIVESTRONG bands are for a good cause have no idea what is like to lose someone important to you because of cancer. Beause of the money people have donated to cancer foundations, she was able to recieve some cutting edge medicine. The doctors only gave her another week of survival, but because of the money contrubutions that support new and improves cures, we were able to buy her two more precious years. Go, buy some bands, and know that your money is not going to waste.

Yikes! I absolutely believe they are for a good cause and is why I find it ridiculous that people would buy them from eBay instead of the foundation simply because they are impatient and want to look trendy. Put the money into the foundation!

I believe that the Livestrong bracelets are for a good cause, too. My brother had cancer at a very young age, and I wear a Livestrong bracelet to remember my brother. I think the people who just wear them for no good reason and buy them on eBay should give their bracelets to someone who actually cares.

Just make donation to the foundation and skip the silly wristband. That way the charity gets all the money, and doesn't have to waste postage sending plastic doohickeys in the mail.

The bands are for a very good cause....wearing them supports the cause, it also gets alot more people to go out and buy them...So go ahead and wear them. You should buy them straight from the foundation, but when you buy them from Ebay, that person most likely already bought it from the foundation. And if they didn't, someone else along the line did.

It would also be a nice idea do "donate and skip the silly wristband", but for some of us, such as myself, it's nice to see the band on our wrist and remember our loved ones in which were lost to cancer... my wristband also reminds ME to live STRONG through tough times. Not everyone wears it for "no good reason", so in my opinion, some people should back up a bit as far as THAT issue goes. Thanks.

All the bracelets in different colors than yellow are FAKES! The only real LIVESTRONG bracelet is the yellow one, and even those have been copied by unscrupulous people and sold as if they are the real thing. None of the money paid to buy these fakes go to the Lance Armstrong foundation! DO NOT BUY THEM FROM eBay or any local merchants. More than likely the money will go to the seller's pockets! The only authorized sellers are the Lance Armstrong Foundation (www.laf.org), and all the Nike stores and Discovery Channel Stores. THAT'S IT, NO ONE ELSE IS AUTHORIZED TO SELL THEM AND NO MONEY YOU PAY TO ANYONE ELSE GOES TO THE CHARITY!!!

Daniella, the link to the foundation was in the original Post, you can buy them there: http://www.laf-store.org/

So mister Chickery, what makes you think that people will trust you giving that 50,000 to the Livestrong foundation? Also, why would someone give it to you so that you can turn around and give it to the foundation? Why not donate directly to the foundation? http://www.laf.org/

I saw the counterfeit ones at a flea market. The only true ones are the LiveSTRONG ones sold either through www.laf-store.org or Niketown stores (available in NY since last Thursday). There are also legit pink ones on Target.com which sell along with the TargetPink campaing for breast cancer.

LiveSTRONGS are not only becoming a new mark of a generation, but they are for a good cause. Because of Lance Armstrong, other companies are making them for their respective causes. I have on original LiveSTRONG, 2 green Seattle-exclusive Seahawks team work bracelets with the donations proceeding to new training for our pro football team and a pink breast cancer "Athena" bracelet. All of them are causes I support. My grandmother died of breast cancer, my grandfather had lung cancer, and my brother wants to play for the Seahawks.

And who cares if people are wearing them if they don't know what they're about? The point is that they still donated without their knowledge.

i think that everyone who is concerned about not being able to get a livestrong band should just visit the website, and buy a large pack and give them out to all your friends and make them aware of the cause so that they can tell everyone they know, comon dig deep it is all about giving! And making people aware

There many ways to donate money... You don't need to show it by wearing a bracelet, but I am excited to see that marketing has advantages and can raly folks across the world to donate to cancer institutes. I have also had family members die and survive from cancer and lukemia.

>You don't need to show it by wearing a bracelet

The whole purpose of the bracelet is to remind you to LiveSTRONG. I'm a survivor- it's a symbol to remind me every day that I'm one of the lucky ones. It also serves to remind me of those who are currently undergoing chemo and other treatment, and of course, those who weren't so lucky. I buy the bracelets and give them out to people who want one.

I wear LiveStrong wristband because 1. my dad passed away from cancer. and 2. my mom is a breast cancer SURVIVOR!!!.And because the money raised, mostly goes to cancer research.
By wearing the LiveStrong wristband, people ask me about it, then I can tell them why I wear it and where the money goes too and how they can get one. (Which is www.laf.org).
And nike stores and discovery channel stores.
NOT ON EBAY!!! PS. The LiveStrong wristbands are YELLOW!!!

The only way to be sure the money is going to the foundation is to buy from the foundation itself.

If you must have the trendy little thing, or some other color then fine, buy them, but know in advance that the money is going for a bracelet and not to the cause. So if you go that route, donate money to the foundation seperately.

I think that people who are trying to make money off of this idea should have to do 1 hour community service with cancer patients for every dollar they profited.
