I'm still a bigger fan of Microsoft's Codeplex project "Terminals"

Having tabs to quickly switch between my terminal sessions makes my life so much easier.

Now that this has been internationalized, what are the odds us Mac users can get an RDC 6.0 supporting client guys? RDC 1.0.3 for OS X was released in October of 2004.

It would be nice to see a new client supporting these cool features the team put into 6.0

Hi,

I've installed the new client on xp and I can connect using the 3389 port, but if I switch xP to a different port, vista Remote desktop client cannot connect - OR it will loop through connecting and disconnecting.

Is there a workaround for this?

P.S.  I've tried turning off firewalls, etc.  I just can't get the RD client in vista to connect to xp if the port is not standard.

Hi Brad,

May I ask you a few questions?

0) To which SKU of XP do you refer?

1) Is FUS enabled?

2) Is the machine joined to a domain?

3) Did this work in the past for an XP to XP session?

Thanks,

Bruce

Bruce,

I'm not familiar with the term FUS.  The machine is a remote stand alone xp machine.  It worked for years as an xp to xp session.

BUT:  By switching the ports from 21 to 119 the sessions seem to be working now.

I don't know if you have any ideas on why 21 used to work XP to XP but doesn't now?  I am fine running it off 119 - but curious what might be causing the disconnect on 21  :)

Thanks

Hey Brad,

FUS stands for Fast User Switching where a users session can be switched out for another for a bit then switched back.

A SKU is a version of windows. XP was available in several different skus, such as XP Pro and XP Home. Here's a link to a list of XP skus:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/evaluation/compare.mspx.

Can you tell us which SKU your machine is?

Also, can you tell us if the machine is joined to a domain? This is usually the case if your machine is on a network at a place of business.

It's possible that some other tcpip app was using port 21. That might cause TS to fail in the way you describe. But I really can't be positive about this until I scanned a resource list for the network on your machine.

If you have further questions, please let us know.

Thanks,

Bruce

Brad,

After a little bit of poking around, I see that you shouldn't be using port 21 or 119.

Port 21 is the default ftp port.

Port 119 is the tcp usenet port.

In general, it's not a good idea to use a port below about 5000 since a lot of them are default ports for other tcp apps.

Cheers,

Bruce
