Tip: Accessing the GAC Quickly and Easily

Have you ever been working with a colleague who asked you to do something like show me the GAC and then told you the coolest trick in the book about how to do it?

Then for a brief moment you feel like a total dork because you didn't know how to do this?

Well just today I had that kind of moment when a colleague and I were troubleshooting a VPC and he asked me to open the GAC.  Honestly I don't look at the GAC that often, that's Global Assembly Cache for you total noobs out there.  The only way I knew how to look at it was with the MMC snap in from the .NET 1.1 days.

He said "Just hit Windows+R and type Assembly".

I thought - what is he talking about?  But I did it and wa-la there was the GAC in Windows Explorer - how cool is that!

Oh great... there goes that feel like a dork moment again...  I'm sure everybody else but me knew about this trick but I still had to pass it along.

A cooler tip :

SUBST G: C:\Windows\Assembly

Now be amazed when you open the G drive
