MOM 2005 Management pack for Web Sites and Services

A great new Management Pack soon to be available.

The Web Sites and Services MP can be used to monitor availability and performance of Web Sites and Web Services by performing HTTP requests against the monitored entities.

On top of UI features that make it a snap to create Request Sequences for monitoring Web applications and Web Services and on top of core monitoring functionality, Microsoft have added a Web page content monitoring feature.  When monitoring a URL that represents a Web page, this feature can parse the Web page content, extract and monitor all content resources (images, scripts, style sheets, etc).

You will find this feature very useful when you care about monitoring resources used by a Web page that change frequently.  You could monitor the Web page content by explicitly adding the URLs that point to the resources, but that would require keeping the monitor in sync with the Web page as the resources it uses change.

You will also find this feature useful as a link checker because it can automatically extract and monitor all links on a Web page.

I just got a copy of the RTM. Very nice. Three components:
(1) WSS Server Configuration Components
(2) WSS MP Configuration Wizard
(3) WSS Agent Configuration Components

Server Config Comp resides on MOM Mgmt Server (Requires IIS & BITS v1.5).
WSS MP Config Wiz (WSS MP Client - resides on Mgmt Srvr) creates Request Sequences based on template rules contained in WSS MP .akm file (no preconfigured rules are included - you create your own).
WSS Agent Config Comp must be installed on all agent-managed computers that will send requests.
A great feature is the capture Web Site navigation feature - it intercepts traffic between IE & the Web Site and captures HTTP request data i.e. headers, body & the like. It automatically follows redirect trafficing (301, 302, 303, & 307 status codes). The WSS MP also intelligently handles cookies it receives from web servers by capturing preference cookies sent on the first request by IE, and updates session cookies w/ new values by the web server.
I'm having to read more on .NET Framework applications, ASP.NET applications, & XML Web Service to understand creation of the rules. Looks like a great MP.
