XNA Game Studio 3.0 Released

Microsoft XNA Game Studio 3.0 has many improvements over its predecessor including support for Visual Studio Professional and higher, which means professional level support such as integrated Application Lifecycle Management / source code control with Team Foundation Server.

Also added in this release is the ability to build games for Zune expanding the list of supported platforms to the following:

  • Games for Microsoft Windows
  • the Microsoft Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system
  • Microsoft® Zune

XNA Game Studio also includes the XNA Framework, which is a set of managed libraries based on the Microsoft® .NET Framework® 2.0 that are designed for game development.  With Visual Studio 2008, you also get support for .NET Framework 3.5 and C# 3.0 making technologies like LINQ available to developers as well.  Here are a few links to get started:

If you are new to game development, these tutorial videos are fantastic and still applicable for XNA Game Studio 3.0.  The tutorial provides the art, you write the code following the short videos.

I highly recommend completing the extra credit videos that are part of the 2D tutorial.  Also, while 3D is super cool, it definitely helps to go through the 2D tutorial first.
