Is there any other way of getting this? I got a note saying that the Nov. CTP was going to be sent to me as a beta tester and now you have the Dec available to MSDN people...

You guys should really post these online for the beta testers too.

I like the guides. SQL server december CTP and VS december CTP are(n't) compatible with each other?

Aaron - You'll need to download SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 from MSDN Subscriber Downloads, too. This is not included in the Dec CTP DVD image.

Denny - We're working to get the pages on MSDN updated. Things take a little longer around the Holidays.

Joku - For this CTP release, we require SQL Server 2005 Beta 2. We haven't done any testing using any of the CTP releases of SQL Server 2005.

# re: VSTS December CTP Now Available on MSDN

As noted for the last release (http://blogs.msdn.com/askburton/archive/2004/09/01/224471.aspx):

Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 supports DVD images up to 2.2 GB in size, but the .ISO image for this release is 3.39 GB. If you want to try installing this release using virtual machines, you'll need to burn a DVD, or use software like Microsoft Virtual CD Control Panel 2.1 on the host computer and then use that drive from the virtual machine.

Forgot to add - Virtual Server 2005 has the same limitation.

# re: VSTS December CTP Now Available on MSDN

In response to James Hancock's question above...

We distribute all Visual Studio CTPs on MSDN Subscriber Downloads. We wish we could distribute CTPs on Microsoft Downloads, but the file size is prohibitive for that infrastructure. MSDN Subscriber Downloads is optimized for large (several GBs) downloads and requires the File Transfer Manager. Microsoft Downloads is optimized for files in the MBs range and uses simple HTTP file transfer. If you received a copy of the November CTP in the mail, you'll also receive a copy of the December CTP.

# re: VSTS December CTP Now Available on MSDN

I got the installation up and running, the setup was a lot smoother than the last time around :-), thanks for the awesome installation document !

I've been trying out the various options and I am stuck in Source control. How do I delete items from the source control ? unbind only removes the associations, the file seems to be still in source control?

I read about the "h" command line program but its giving me fusion log errors. Since there are just too many files that i checked in that was part of our project, Visual Studio takes me around 10-20 minutes to load a solution. It would be helpful if there is any easy way to delete all of those files..

What version is the Visual Studio that came with this CTP, it kind of looks like the October CTP as the web projects still have Application_xxx directories instead of the app_xxx directories.

Is there any help document available on managing the users, groups, I tried adding a couple of groups and users but they don't show in the drop-down when I want to assign work items to them. Any pointers for any of these would greatly be helpful.

Thanks !

# re: VSTS December CTP Now Available on MSDN

I'm not asking you to put it on www.microsoft.com/downloads/

I'm asking you to put it on beta.microsoft.com so that the beta testers can get it in a reasonable time frame. I mean real beta testers here.

I STILL haven't received my november ctp, little own my Dec ctp.

The beta site is designed to download this size of image, so it shouldn't be a problem, and you'd be limiting it to the real beta testers that should be using it to test on. This just makes sense....

I tried all CTPs (October and November) with SQL Server 2005 CTP October 32 bit Developer Edition(I belive it's beta 3) and did not work at all. Any ideas?

I've used WinRar (http://www.win-rar.com/index.php) in the past to unpack the images. Then share the folder with the Virtual PC image and install. Go grap a cup of coffee while you're waiting though... :)

James - I'll pass along your feedback re: beta.microsoft.com.

Priyank - As per the most recent Installation Guide, you must use SQL Server 2005 Beta 2.

GuyIncognito - Good tip. Thanks!

I haven't attempted an install yet (I gave up on the first one that was released).. but looking at those two diagrams, I want to kiss whoever made and published them.

My documentation of my own systems is not very good, so I'm not perfect here.. but relying on MS's written instructions is sometimes an exercise in futility.

I'm guilty on both charges - I wrote the docs and created the diagrams. Any feedback you have on improving either, please contact me: http://blogs.msdn.com/robcaron/contact.aspx

Thanks about beta.microsoft.com!!! I'm dying to try the Dec CTP considering that it's well into your big push for B2 and thus should be MUCH more stable than the Nov CTP that came before the big zero bug push :)
