Can Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio .NET 2003 Get Along?

I've been asked this question by quite a few people today via e-mail & IM, so I thought I'd publish the answer to my blog.

Q: Can Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 be installed side-by-side with Visual Studio .NET 2003?

A: Yes.

For more information, see Installing Visual Studio.

If you do so and experience problems as a result, it's probably a bug and we'd love to hear about it. The best way to submit feedback about your Beta 2 experience is through the Product Feedback CenterProduct Feedback Center.

Just to echo what Rob says above, if you experience what we call Side by Side (SxS) issues, we want to hear about them. For the past two years, I've been testing Whidbey on my primary machine SxS with Everett about 90-95% of the time. I can't recall the last time i noticed a SxS issue. So definitely let us know if you run into any issues.

thanks!

Syed - Yes, I think so. Visual Studio 2005 was built to work side-by-side with Visual Studio .NET 2003.

# Installing Visual Studio 2003 after installing Visual Studio 2005

I've had multiple issues with VS 2003 when I installed if after installing VS 2005.  I can not open ASP projects for VS 2003.  I get an error that the system thinks .NET 1.1 isn't installed in IIS.  I've gone through all the suggested fixes for this issue but none seem to work.  I'm currently uninstalling both VS studio applications, IIS, and both frameworks.  I hope that fixes these problems.
