MSF for CMMI Process Improvement Webcast & Chat

David AndersonOn Thursday, August 18th, David Anderson will be presenting a Webcast introducing MSF for CMMI Process Improvement. Immediately following the Webcast, we’ll switch over to an MSDN Online chat to field and answer specific questions about MSF for CMMI Process Improvement, and general questions about MSF in Team System.

The Webcast will run from 11 AM to 12 PM Pacific Time (GMT -8), with the chat starting at 12 PM and running to 1 PM Pacific Time.

Note - We're in the process of adding information about this event to each of those pages.

This will be the first Webcast/Chat combo on a Team System topic. If this event is successful, we’ll explore other topics around Team System. I think this is an excellent way to have information presented and products demonstrated by the experts while still providing more than sufficient time for Q & A.

I think CMMI is a great standard but I feel in someways it detracts from what should be the main focus of development: quality.

Anyone can implement a process but the question is what types of results is the company using the process to maintain. Ultimately, it is about how process improvement leads to better products not about process improvement without necessarily having process change. There needs to be more there than going through the motions.

I think it would be useful to have opininions on Continuous Process Improvement. Basically, how to collect metrics and locate problems and possibilities for improvement. Also topics like how to improve customer responsiveness and making sure you are developing the right product would be useful.

A lot of things are not clear cut and debate and discussion might be useful. For example, some individuals might feel like there is too much red tape in implementing a structured process. How do you show individuals that they can improve a process without feeling tied to over-management.

Microsoft should also heavily push collaboration. I know that Bill Gates is working on a book on the digital workstyle. It would be useful to have more information showing how to integrate current technology into the business flow and Business Process Analysis and Improvement.

With the lean focus of MSF, I think this will be an interesting web cast. And with what David and the TS team is doing on the Team System front, his perspective eye-opening.

Push-based planning and CMMI are a disaster waiting to happen - it'll be interesting to see if CMMI can be any better with pull-based planning.
