Heading Out

The time has come for our bi-annual TechReady event. This is a training conference hosted for Microsoft technical roles in Seattle. Typically each MS member gets to go to Seattle once a year, either in the Winter (now) or Summer (Jul/Aug).

The conference itself is a huge event, hosted in Seattle to be close to the Product Groups and engineers. Then, each segment takes advantage of having up to 60% of the field in town and hosts their own pre- or post-conference summits. Making the event even bigger.

There are two main opportunities for a trip like this:

  1. The obvious first one is simply to get down and dirty with the technology. Presentations, Instructor Led Labs, Hands-on Labs, Certification exams, and "Ask the Experts". I'm looking forward to getting into our newer Development Technologies.
  2. The second, less obvious, and more difficult to execute successfully, is to network across the organisation.

Before leaving last week, I asked my colleagues, and team to send me through the one or two people they thought it imperative I catch up with. I now have a list some 20 names long :)

So my dilemma, continue losing weight, in America, on expenses, in Winter, whilst networking and eating out with as many people as I can.

Should be fun.

I'll let you know how I get on.
