Heading Out
The time has come for our bi-annual TechReady event. This is a training conference hosted for Microsoft technical roles in Seattle. Typically each MS member gets to go to Seattle once a year, either in the Winter (now) or Summer (Jul/Aug).
The conference itself is a huge event, hosted in Seattle to be close to the Product Groups and engineers. Then, each segment takes advantage of having up to 60% of the field in town and hosts their own pre- or post-conference summits. Making the event even bigger.
There are two main opportunities for a trip like this:
- The obvious first one is simply to get down and dirty with the technology. Presentations, Instructor Led Labs, Hands-on Labs, Certification exams, and "Ask the Experts". I'm looking forward to getting into our newer Development Technologies.
- The second, less obvious, and more difficult to execute successfully, is to network across the organisation.
Before leaving last week, I asked my colleagues, and team to send me through the one or two people they thought it imperative I catch up with. I now have a list some 20 names long :)
So my dilemma, continue losing weight, in America, on expenses, in Winter, whilst networking and eating out with as many people as I can.
Should be fun.
I'll let you know how I get on.
