Windows Vista, Office 2007 has arrived

The “Wow” starts now! … The LOVE (Launch of Office Vista Exchange) is in the air!

With critiques trying to tear it apart by bashing Windows Vista about requiring fast processor and loads of memory… as they did at the launch of Windows XP…

So what happened?  Well, there are now 665 million copies of XP installed worldwide, giving it 74.3% share of the PC installed base. Other versions of Windows account for another 190 million units, or 21.6% share.)

No wonder nobody at Microsoft seems too upset about the bad reviews of Vista. First of all, it’s easy (and fashionable) to talk trash about Microsoft. And it’s all too easy to overlook Microsoft’s achievements, like making operating system software that works well enough and is priced well enough to attract 96% of the world’s PC users. ()

Windows Vista and Office 2007 rolled out yesterday at over 39000 stores around the world and online to change the way people live, work and play.

Whatever they say now..They’ll

Probably be using it too in a few years time (), if not now.

iPhone - who's line it is anyways?

Almost everyone now knows

-       Microsoft’s Zune  : a feature packed answer to iPod.

-       IPTV on Xbox 360 : Recently announced in CES 2007 keynote by Bill Gates

In a two-hour keynote on Tuesday Steve Jobs announced

-       Apple’s iPhone, A device in which besides listening to music you can make phone calls, send text messages and e-mail, surf the Web, and take and upload photos, all using a wide touch screen and a single button.

-       Apple TV, previously known by its code name iTV.

Interestingly a similarly-named net phone called the iPhone was launched by Linksys (a division of Cisco Systems Inc.) just few weeks before the more recently launched Apple’s iPhone.

Steve Jobs also confirmed continuing to refer to the new mobile device as the iPhone, though the trademark is owned by Cisco Systems. Apple has apparently been in discussions with Cisco over use of the iPhone trademark for some time, but it was unclear what Apple's use of the name will mean for either company.

So who is following who??

It seems Lots to come…I believe let the competition benefit consumers and let device convergence expedite to give that all-in-one device soon.

Microsoft's AURA

You are shopping. You just took a snap of 'Barcode' of the stuff you are about to buy. And your phone just told you "Hey this stuff is more cheaper at the other shop nearby". or "Hey don't buy that stuff, this comes from some controversial  manufacturer!".

Yes!... this is possible with Advanced User Resource Annotation or AURA a free application from Microsoft Research, which though is in early stages but will give you a taste of the future.

Depending on your mobile phone it might require a Lens-kit... you can get that also by just sending a Self addressed stamped envelope to MSR.

Meeting the (w)intellectuals…

Last week, I had a chance to attend some amazingly good sessions (An advanced C# session by

Justin Smith

and Advanced ASP.NET 2.0, AJAX sessions by

Jeff Prosise

) as these techies flew to India. Not surprisingly, my mind was flooded with plethora of information (and ideas:) during these 3 days sessions. I was surprised as Jeff unfolded some less known and undocumented secrets of ASP.NET 2.0. I was wondering why these facts are not documented properly and how anybody can build any scalable enterprise web solutions without knowing them.

I know I’m a lazy programmer (and a lazy blogger:). But I’m dying to find time to try my hands (and blog) on some of these stuff soon.

WinFX in action !!

“NY Times Reader” app uses many cool features of Windows Vista (.NET Framework 3.0 / WPF).

For those of you who haven’t downloaded it already – you can install the NY Times reader from here (It will automatically install the .NET 3.0 framework, if required) & watch the video demo

more to come...

Recently  everybody is witnessing kind of  preview/release season at Microsoft(most of which were most awaited products) viz. XBox360,  IE7, 2007 Office System RTM, VSTO 2005 SE, new release of Office Live,  Zune and  Windows Vista RTM etc.  (Also there were some spikes in MSFT shares too:)

Though there were some launches from other players (esp. in  gaming console market) too like PS3, Wii

But clearly there is more excitement within Microsoft and Public as many amazing products are lined up and reaching their final stage and which are worth waiting!
