Welcome to Sunny Seattle! Huh?
I moved to Seattle not too long ago. I heard stories of the constant rain and dreary days. Needless to say, this has been all but a typical winter. In fact, this is one of the worst winters in history in Seattle (worst in the sense of almost no snow). This seems to be one of the few times you will actually hear Seattlites complain about "too little" precipitation.
I am certainly amongst those who is not happy with the weather. I bought a new pair of snowshoes this winter and used them only once out here. But might I mention what a fun time it was! I signed up for a winter camping course only to have it canceled and rescheduled --- 3 times. And yes, I even bought a season pass to the local ski resorts (oops!). I think the worst part will be the conditions this summer. I love alpine lakes, waterfalls, rivers, streams, kayaking, white water rafting, and glaciers. It will be interesting to see how all these things pan out when summer swings by.
I guess there is no need to complain much though. When I talk about this to my family and friends in Michigan and New York, they don't feel the least bit sympathetic toward my situation, and I don't blame them. After all, the sunny weather here also meant that there was great hiking this winter. This past Saturday was a whopping 61 degrees and as sunny as could be. I went for a "walk in the park" (yeah right!) with a friend, and we had great views of Rainier, the Cascades, and even part of the Olympics.
I have a feeling mother nature will swap conditions next winter between Cali and Washington --- we'll wait and see. :)
