There are several major errors in the powerpoint on how RETE works. I would suggest you get in touch with Charles Young a MVP to get a better understanding http://geekswithblogs.net/cyoung/.

Getting a thorough and solid understanding of how RETE works takes years, so I understand why the powerpoint makes wrong assumptions. WF engines are useful and provide benefits in specific cases, but many of the explanations in the powerpoint are wrong for other RETE engines. It may be correct for MS BRE, but I can't say for sure. Hi Woolfel, Thanks for your comment. This presentation was done by a Microsoft Consultant to a bunch of customers using WF Rules and BizTalk BRE. It is not intended as a general RETE reference. RETE implementations differ from each other - and this wasnt an attempt to explain the RETE algorithm, just what we have.
