Typically, we venture out to events with a pretty strong Microsoft presence (TechEd, VS Live, etc.), but last week, we attended the SD Best Practices Expo in Boston . These people turn it into religion, and I wonder how much time they actually spend solving business problems. Microsoft stuff has made it very easy for me to be successful. I'm enough "in the know" now to get access to stuff because of my forthcoming book, but it all started with an out-of-pocket MSDN subscription. I haven't looked back since!

re: $pelling Micro$oft with a Dollar $ign

Beautifully said.

re: $pelling Micro$oft with a Dollar $ign

Excellent post.

The back and forth of all this stuff gets a bit boring at some point, sun slandering redhat, redhat slandering sun - well maybe not slandering exactly but you probably get my point.

It is amazing how many people seem to ignore the fact that Microsoft is a business (and not necessarily one I am overly fond of) and I think the quote "Don't expect us to not act like a business" is a good one. Now when will the Slashdot crowd (me included) realise that IBM and Novell are companies too - they want to make money and are compelled to do whatever makes money for their shareholders. They are not supporting Linux out of the goodness of their heart they are supporting Linux because it is diametrically opposed to Microsoft and they can make money from it.

On the down side, Microsoft (marketing in particular) have done some pretty dumb stuff in the past (and more recently) that casts Microsoft in a bad light. Yes open sourcing some of your software is a good move, as is Channel 9 (when they work out how to really build a community) - but for every cool/good thing that Microsoft employees do, your marketing seems to over-compensate.

As long as you big companies all just leave Apple alone to innovate and show everyone else the path I'll be happy ;)

Take heart ... you have supporters

There are people out here that believe MS is on the right track ... even though you hear objections so much of the time. Each and every day I leverage MS technology to give business and home value. Some of us noticed the free compilers and MSDE a long time ago.
