Application Integration Framework (AIF) enables companies to integrate

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 and communicate with external business

processes and partners through the exchange of XML over various transport media. AIF enables both business-to-business and application-to-application integration scenarios.

Following enhancements are new in AX 2009.

· Create, read, update, and delete (CRUD) operations are now supported.

· The programming model for AIF supports document services that encapsulate business logic and are the interface to external systems.

· AIF provides functionality for consuming external Web services from within X++.

· Performance improvements include the ability to scale up and handle more messages through parallel message processing and the addition of multiple AOSs.

· New document services for additional commonly-used documents.

Microsoft Dynamics AX receives placement in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant

Recently Microsoft Dynamics AX product has been positioned in the Midmarket (100-1,000 employees) ERP Magic Quadrant by Gartner. Gartner concludes that Microsoft Dynamics AX delivers low TCO through integration with other Microsoft products, and, most importantly for the midmarket, Microsoft is adept at managing its channel of resellers.

Microsoft Dynamics AX Helps Businesses Manage Their Carbon Footprint and Identify Cost-Saving Opportunities

New Environmental Sustainability Dashboard for Microsoft Dynamics AX enables midsize businesses to track their environmental impact and energy consumption from within their ERP solution. Today’s release enables Microsoft Dynamics partners to expand their business offerings. Comprehensive guidance, available with the dashboard, walks partners and customers through how they can work together to create a greenhouse gas inventory to determine a company’s emissions, a typically challenging and complex process.

The Environmental Sustainability Dashboard uses indicators based on the G3 guidelines from the Global Reporting Initiative, an internationally recognized organization formed to facilitate sustainability reports. The dashboard components are Microsoft SharePoint Web parts that can be propagated in Microsoft Dynamics AX Role Centers and on any Enterprise Portal site. For details see here.

Technology Forum of Delaware: Cloud Computing Session by David Solivan

This week Technology Forum of Delaware invited my colleague David Solivan, Architect Evangelist from Microsoft, to deliver a session on Cloud Computing and Azure Service Platform, at Arsht Hall, University of Delaware. David did a great job of explaining the industry trends, Microsoft’s investment in this direction, and how businesses can leverage these offerings in their advantage in this down economy.

It was great to see several local business & technology friends including folks from Intellitec Solutions, Diamond Technologies, Gates and Company, HostMySite. I enjoyed several discussions on local economy and what Microsoft is doing on areas like Microsoft Dynamics, Azure, BizSpark, CRM Incubation Week.

Great to learn how Delaware State is growing local entrepreneurial capacity using organizations like Delaware Emerging Technology Center, an incubator created by Delaware Economic Development Center, and First State Innovation, a privately led initiative.

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 SP1 Released (Hits GA!)

Microsoft Dynamics^® AX 2009 Service Pack 1 (SP1) contains the complete set of updates that Microsoft has issued since the June 2008 RTM release of Microsoft Dynamics^® AX 2009, as well as a number of enhancements and new features to improve the product’s functionality and user experience. Other key highlights in this service pack release include:

1. Supports Microsoft SQL Server^® 2008.

2. Supports future GLS releases and targeted releases, such as the Environmental Sustainability module, which will require an SP1 environment for installation.

3. Updates both the SYS and GLS layers of the product. This means, for example, that if you already have GLS-TR installed on your system, SP1 will update this layer during the installation process.

4. You can now write XML documentation in X++® source code to document classes, class methods, and table methods. This XML documentation can be extracted from the source code to create an XML documentation file.

Microsoft Dynamics^® AX 2009 Service Pack 1 can be downloaded from PartnerSource (need access login).
