How to enable "Personalize this Page" option in dashboard pages in MOSS 2007
14 September 08 11:07 PM | sanjeg | 2 Comments

Problem:

If you build a Report Center site in MOSS 2007, you'll notice that "Personalize this Page" option is missing from the Welcome <User Name> drop drop down on the top right of the page. This option is visible on most of the other pages in the team site.

Personalize this page

Solution:

  1. Open the dashboard page you want to enable this option in notepad.
  2. For each web part zone in the dashboard page, update AllowPersonalization=”True”. It is set to False by default.
  3. If you want to only allow personalization of certain zones, then only change these for those zones.

MSF Process Templates v4.1
17 May 07 07:52 AM | sanjeg | 3 Comments

Late last year Microsoft released the Process Guidance updated for the Visual Studio Team Edition for Database Professionals (for both MSF for Agile Software Development and MSF for CMMI Process Improvement). There were manual steps required to integrate that guidance into the Process Templates which shipped in TFS. We are now making the next version of Process Templates available which have the Process Guidance for Database Professionals already integrated.

Also as you use Process Editor, I think there is a non-zero possibility of overwriting the default process templates which shipped in the box.  Though TFS will give you ample warning before you do that, but just in case you do manage to overwrite them, the following downloads are your backup to get those Process Templates.

MSF for CMMI Process Improvement - v4.1 : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=12A8D806-BB98-4EB4-BF6B-FB5B266171EB&displaylang=en

MSF for Agile Software Development - v4.1: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=EA75784E-3A3F-48FB-824E-828BF593C34D&displaylang=en

This also coincides with the launch of the new website for MSF, which will provide access to Process Templates and other Process related tools and components from Microsoft and its partners. Here is the URL for the site: http://msdn.microsoft.com/msf.

Microsoft Visual Studio Team System Process Editor launched
21 February 07 07:58 PM | sanjeg | 2 Comments

Yesterday Microsoft released the Team System Process Editor as part of the Team Foundation Server Power Tools release v1.2.

Overview

The Process Editor provides a convenient method of viewing and customizing process templates. The Process Editor can work in two modes: Connected and Disconnected. In Connected mode, the Process Editor interacts with your Team Foundation server, enabling you to interact with the items in an existing project on the server. The list below indicates which tasks will need you to be in connected mode and which you can perform in disconnected mode.

o   Edit process template files (processtemplate.xml). [Disconnected],

e.g. before creating a project, you want to add new work item types to the process template or change the existing work item types, or add default work items etc.

o   Edit and manage stand-alone work item type definitions.

§  Edit work item type definition on an existing live project. [Connected],

e.g. if you want to add, rename or remove fields from a work item on an existing project.

§  Export or import work item types between an existing project on the Team Foundation server and a file on your computer. [Connected],

e.g. if you want to take a work item type on an existing project, save it as a file and then use that work item type on another project or in a process template.

§  Edit work item type definition file saved on your computer. [Disconnected]

o   Edit and manage global lists. (For more information on Global Lists, see How to: Use a Global List on MSDN.)

§  Open Global list on a server. [Connected]

§  Export or import Global lists between a Team Foundation server and a file on your computer. [Connected]

§  Edit Global list file saved on your computer. [Disconnected]

Download Instructions:

You can download the Power tools from the following URL: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7324c3db-658d-441b-8522-689c557d0a79&displaylang=en

Note: Please install DSL Tools for Visual Studio 2005 before you run the Power Tools installer. It is a pre-requisite for the Team System Process Editor. If you don't install this, the Power tools installer will install everything except the Process Editor. DSL tools download is available at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=82410

After the power tools installation is complete, you can find the User Guide and the Readme file at

Start Menu >> Programs >> Microsoft Team Foundation Server Power Tools >> Microsoft Visual Studio Team System Process Editor

To launch the Process Editor:

  1. Open Visual Studio.

  2. If you can’t see the Team Explorer window, click Team Explorer in the View menu, and connect to a Team Foundation server.

  3. You will see a Process Editor menu item on the Team menu of Visual Studio.

  4. Select the appropriate option in the Process Editor menu.
