Recent Power Toy "Getting the word out" Changes

Update:  I've attached the OPML file (see bottom of this post) used to create the MSDN RSS feed, in case you're having issues with the RSS feed on the power toy landing page.

Over the past week, we've made some changes to the way we interact with the community, some based on internal discussions and others based on your feedback (keep it coming!):

Power Toy Forums is now retired.  You can now find all the forum posts to your favorite power toys on their respective CodePlex projects

Power Toy Landing Page pulling from team OPML file.  Now there's an inclusive RSS feed for everything happening on our blogs (instead of just reading my power toy RSS feed).

Keep the feedback coming!

Hi Sara,

Unfortunately I can’t to subscribe to RSS feed link you are talking about – my feed reader (intraVnews) can’t resolve the feed URL.

Hi Dmitry, i've added the opml file to the blog post as an attachment (see bottom of the entry). Let me know if that works for you.

I'll let MSDN know that your RSS reader is having issues, so they can investigate.

Thanks!

Thanks a lot, Sara! It's ok for me for now.

I've sent the report to intraVnews reader team - they promised to address this issue. They also said that the reason of it - is too long feed URL. Maybe this information will be useful for MSDN team.

Sweet.  Glad the OMPL file works for you.

Yeah, i figured it was because it was too long.  The RSS Feed URL is so long because it contains the title, the description, and a link back to the power toy page.

Let me ask them for some workarounds, so that we can have just one RSS button that works for everyone.

thnaks!

Dmitry,
can you try subscribing the following link in your RSS reader?

http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdn-online/shared/components/rssaggregator.aspx?OPML=/vstudio/downloads/powertoys/powertoys.opml&link=http://msdn.microsoft.com/powertoys&title=Power+Toys+for+Visual+Studio

I've trimmed it down as much as i could, so it is now only 199 characters.  The original link is 282 characters, and probably most readers have a max 255 character requirement for their URL length.

Sara,

I tried the shortened feed URL you provided but the result was the same - my feed reader (intraVnews v1.12) couldn't resolve it. As we can see - that is not 255 characters limit.

Never mind - I believe this problem will be investigated and fixed in next version of my reader.

Thanks!

ARGH, I was certain that would be it.  But anyways, i've noticed other issues with the length of the feed being so long, like not being able to hyperlink it in Outlook, issues with other readers, etc.

In the meantime, i've verified both versions long and short work in IE7, so maybe that's an option for you.

Regardless, i've sent the feedback to the MSDN team.  Thanks again for your patience.
