Introducing Lorna Farrar.....

I thought I'd start this blog the way I intend to continue it..... with a mix of the news from Microsoft that's relevant for our SBSCs, through my eyes.

And if you're going to be seeing things through my eyes.... you'd better find out a bit more about me....

Introducing Lorna.....

So, Lorna, you're new to the role of Small Business Partner Marketing Manager, how do you see your first 6 months panning out?

I've been itching to get started in my new role and I don't think there's a better time to start.

The next 6 months will really be about the Vista, Office 2007 and Exchange 2007 (EVO for those in the know - check out the new EVO website we launched late last year for all the resources and information about the EVO products) - I can't help but get excited when I think of all the opportunities the launch is going to open up for our Small Business Partners! The new products really do help small businesses address some really critical issues and you'll see a real focus on how our SBSC Partners can talk to customers about the benefits and really drive sales into this market.

So Lorna how did you find your way to this role. Was there life before Microsoft?

I've been at Microsoft for the last 2 years driving the Partner event strategy and looking after Partner communications around the campaigns. So if you've ever checked out the Partner Marketing Centre or you've been to a Partner Roadshow or ANZ Partner Conference - then you'll be seeing my work.

Prior to that I worked in marketing and communications at Ernst and Young and a not for profit in the UK. I'm really looking forward to getting back to my marketing roots.

I heard you spent some time on Hamilton Island in your last role.... sounds like a tough job?

That's what everyone says - but I can tell you, making sure a conference for 800 people runs smoothly while the sun is shining and the beach is beckoning is hard work.

Seriously, the opportunity to drive the partner event strategy over the last two years has been a great one - I've loved being able to provide Partners with access to great content and the opportunity to build relationships with other partners as well as Microsoft staff! And I've seen satisfaction in the overall event experience really grow and if Partners are happy, then I'm happy.

What’s your no.1 focus that being in your current role empowers you to do?
Build stronger connections between Partners and customers to help our Partners grow their businesses.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I sing in a gospel choir - think Sister Act!

How big is your geek gland?
Pretty big, I wouldn't say bleeding edge but definately early adopter. I've been looking forward to upgrading to Vista and Office 2007 for ages now and I'm counting down the days, hours and minutes until my new laptop arrives and I can start mkaing use of all the new features!

What do you like most about working in the partner organization within Microsoft?
The opportunity to make a difference!
