I downloaded and installed the Beta Update. When I try to discover a server that I manually installed the agent on I get this message:

You are attempting to manage a 'Unsupported Linux Distribution' system, however the 'Unsupported Linux Distribution' Management Packs are not currently imported. If you wish to manage this system, import the Management Packs and try again.

Where can I find that MP ??

Any chance the CPE will work with HPUX 11.23?

I see that HPUX 11.31 is listed, but hoping that is not a hard requirement.

Thanks.

HP-UX 11.23 will be supported in the next Beta release.  In the Beta 1 Release only HP-UX 11.31 is supported.

Taimour,

Can you try to manually Install the agent?  I am assuming that its a missing pre-req.

Also, the Connect newsgroups would be a better place to post this.

Whilst in TechEd Spain this month MS assured be it was good to use now, we got an early version tested it then went live with it. Barry you were right (System Centre Party)

So we have installed in one of our hosted Management Groups for Operations Manager the R2 release, early days yet but here is some feed back, we are seeing alot of the error's from SP1 have gone the overall speed of the system is up. Agent deployment is an improvement. One of my pet hates is fixed which is the fact you can clear alerts using page down. Some bugs when you use the Management Console in Vista (mainly when deploying agents to cross platform OS's). The alerts are much improved in the detail. Not sure I like the new meathod to import MP but guess we have to get used to it. The Authoring section is much better with more features that where needed. So my view is well done

We are now seeking ways to monitor our linux systems with SCOM, but we have a significant amount of debian or ubuntu servers.

I can see, that openwsmanagement exists to those platforms - is there/will there be a way to install openwsmanagement to for example an ubuntu server, make the necessary modifications, publications, whatever and then monitor those servers with SCOM?

Will I have to create my own management packs to do that?

we are now trying to decide between waiting for SCOM 2007 R2 to be available and ready, or to just purchase 3rd party management packs and the answer to these questions will make us decide.

If you don't now these answers, where should I ask them? :)

Regards

Greybear

Greybear,

Currently debian and ubuntu servers are not on the roadmap.

It is our plan to release our code to the open source community to allow partners and customers to build the agents and Management Pack for systems not officially supported by Microsoft.

You will need to build your own Management Pack and we will be releasing documention on how the Management Packs are built.

Barry
