Beta of the Upgrade Toolkit for Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Sites and Templates now available
In the pre-announcement of the “Fab 40” Application Templates for WSS 3.0, Lawrence alluded to the migration guidance documentation and tools to upgrade WSS 2.0 sites and templates to WSS 3.0 that my team has been working on. We, the Microsoft Solution Accelerator – Communications and Collaboration (SA-CC) team, are very pleased to announce the beta release of the Upgrade Toolkit for Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Sites and Templates!
Overview
This solution accelerator provides guidance and tools to enable IT Professionals to successfully upgrade their Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 custom sites and templates. The result: A set of custom sites and templates that will operate in a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 environment. This toolkit also includes a set of upgraded Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 application templates.

· A script creating a site on the WSS 3.0 server for a WSS 2.0 site template that is based on a customized site definition. The script uses the customized site definition, an upgrade schema, and a new site definition. See the “Determine Which Site Templates Have Been Customized” section in Chapter 2 for more information.
· An automated script deploying all WSS 3.0 site templates or a single site template to the target WSS 3.0 server.
