Beta of the Upgrade Toolkit for Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Sites and Templates now available

In the pre-announcement of the “Fab 40” Application Templates for WSS 3.0, Lawrence alluded to the migration guidance documentation and tools to upgrade WSS 2.0 sites and templates to WSS 3.0 that my team has been working on. We, the Microsoft Solution Accelerator – Communications and Collaboration (SA-CC) team, are very pleased to announce the beta release of the Upgrade Toolkit for Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Sites and Templates!

Overview

This solution accelerator provides guidance and tools to enable IT Professionals to successfully upgrade their Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 custom sites and templates. The result: A set of custom sites and templates that will operate in a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 environment. This toolkit also includes a set of upgraded Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 application templates.

Accelerator Components

The Upgrade Toolkit for Windows SharePoint Services Sites and Templates includes the following:

A guide containing:

·         Introduction to the Upgrade Toolkit for Windows SharePoint Services Sites and Templates, explaining its purpose, scope, audience, and contents.

·         Planning Your Template Upgrade, examining the site template upgrade process from beginning to end and gives you necessary information for planning your upgrade strategy.

·         Preparing a Site Template Based on a Customized Site Definition.

·         Upgrading Site Templates Based on a Customized Site Definition.

·         Already upgraded Application Templates for WSS. This chapter lists and describes the function of each of the upgraded application templates for WSS and gives you detailed instructions for installing the application templates in a WSS 3.0 environment.

·         Troubleshooting. This chapter provides workarounds and fixes for problems you may encounter.

Solution scripts containing:

·         An automated script serving as a “wrapper” to all other scripts, thereby enabling users to run all of the scripts as part of an end-to-end process. This script allows users to enter the source and target locations of site template (.stp) files.

·         An automated script deploying either all WSS 2.0 .stp files or a single .stp file to the target WSS 2.0 server.

·         A script creating a site on the WSS 3.0 server for a WSS 2.0 site template that is based on a customized site definition. The script uses the customized site definition, an upgrade schema, and a new site definition. See the “Determine Which Site Templates Have Been Customized” section in Chapter 2 for more information.

·         An automated script deploying all WSS 3.0 site templates or a single site template to the target WSS 3.0 server.

·         MigMakeSite.cmd A script creating a site on the WSS 3.0 server using the new site template.

·         A script deleting the site on the WSS 3.0 server that was created using the new site template.

·         A script deleting the original instantiated WSS 2.0 site templates still residing on the post-migrated WSS 3.0 server.

Upgraded application templates for Windows SharePoint Services including:

·         Board_of_Directors-Basic_beta.stp

·         Case_Work_Management-Basic_beta.stp

# password???

I've downloaded the beta, but when I try to unzip the beta templates the zip file is password protected.  I've looked all around the Solution Accelerators Connect site, but cannot find it.

I've downloaded everything and what I've seen look great.  However, the beta templates seem to be in a password protected zip file, but the password doesn't seem to be given anywhere.  Any suggestions?

Did anyone ever find a solution to the password protected ZIP file?  The Connect site seems pretty bare.

I have been told that the 3.0 templates in the Upgrade Toolkit are not the final version. Does anyone know if this is true? When will the Fab 40 be Released?

Using Microsoft Application Transporter 2006 for Domino to move applications to WSS 2.0 from Lotus 6.5. Can I upgrade to WSS 3.0 and still be able to convert apps with Transporter 2006? also using Exchange 2003......

Thanks,
