Virtual Server 2005 R2 Support for WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007

Although there was no support for virtual environments in SPS 2003 and WSS 2.0 in KB 909840.  There is now product support for WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 with Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 x86 or x64.  Which you can currently download for free or order a CD.  Although Virtual PC might be used by product support for reproducing issues, or in non production environments.  There will be no support on Virtual PC.  It is highly recommended to *NOT* run WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 production environments with Virtual PC.

Support for third party virtualization remains similar to how it has in the past. Please refer to KB 897615.  It's possible that product support will require that you reproduce the issue in a non virtualized environment if they suspect that the virtual environment is a potential contributing factor in the issue.

Although it's not a production environment, I'm running both WSS 3 and MOSS 2007 without a single problem using the beta of Virtual PC 2007.

# Virtual Server 2005 R2 Support for WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007

Has anyone been succesfull using the following code (Sharepoint OM) to

create new site in MOSS 2007 ? I've not overcome the credential problem

no matter what i used, i.e, impersonation (thru web.config), new

CredentialCache, or running the Web Service using a special App Pool

with Admin rights.

SPSite Site = new SPSite(SPSitePath);

SPWeb mySite = Site.OpenWeb();

SPWebCollection subSites = mySite.Webs;

string currentTemplate = mySite.WebTemplate;

subSites.Add(siteUrl, siteTitle, siteDescription, 1033,

currentTemplate, true, false);

The code works fine, when it is execute inside VS 2005. But not thru IIs, ie, stand alone. It also work fine as WinApp.

Thx.

Someone asked about VMWare, one of our fine partners.  They are covered by the third party support KB.  Please refer to KB 897615.  They weren't included in our test cycles.  For VMWare related issues please talk to Citrix. For WSS 3.0/MOSS 2007 issues you can talk to product support, but they *may* ask you to reproduce your issue outside the virtual environment.

# re: Virtual Server 2005 R2 Support for WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007

Where can I find information about setting up a proper SharePoint 2007 Dev / Test / Production environment? We are using VPC for Dev and are having trouble figuring out a process for deploying the latest Site Collection "stuff" to all the developers and then deploying their work to Test. Basically, I'm in need of a recommended Software Development Lifecycle plan for SharePoint 2007-based Development using VPC.

Thanks,

Rob

Shame because virtual farms running MOSS 2007 are doing great in the real world.

# re: Virtual Server 2005 R2 Support for WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007

I have installed Virtual Server 2005 R2 on Windows XP 64 bit. I want to install SharePoint Services 3.0/SP1 but I receive this message; "The product requires ASP.Net v2.0 to be set to allow in the list of IIS Web Server Extensions. If it is not listed, reinstall ASP.NET v2.o and rerun setup." The was done before I tried to install the first time and verified several times since. What can I do to get SharePoint Services 3.0 installed on my Virtual Server?

I'd like to know if we have updated statements regarding MOSS 2007 supportability on HyperV as well as Virtual Server (i.e. an official KB). Please contact me at craig.mason@microsoft.com

Hyper V has been released two weeks ago. Do you know if there is any official support information for hyper-v and moss available?

Thx & Regards
