Status update re: DoD 5015.2 certification for MOSS 2007

Based on the growing number of questions about DoD 5015.2 certification that I've seen in the SharePoint community and heard from customers over the past few weeks, it's obvious that many people missed the announcement that had been posted on the Records Management Team Blog back in November. In summary:

Microsoft is working on a Records Center Add-on Pack for Office SharePoint Server which will provide the additional functionality to meet the DoD 5015.2 criteria.  The add-on pack will be freely available to all customers with Office SharePoint Server 2007, so anyone can take advantage of the new features.

Microsoft is slotted to take the DoD 5015.2 certification test on May 14, 2007 and we plan to release the add-on pack shortly after the certification process is complete.

I'm very pleased to confirm that we are on track with our preparations to meet the May 14 testing date. While we are confident about achieving this important certification, we cannot commit to a final release date for the "Add-on Pack" until after the testing date. Rest assured that we will make an announcement and provide more details as soon as we can. We appreciate your support and thank you for your patience.

# re: Status update re: DoD 5015.2 certification for MOSS 2007

I am amazed and somewhat disappointed that the functional Standard requirement for Records Management is again being overlooked by yet another vendor.  DoD5015.2 is a technical specification that tells you what is required.

More and more we are seeing RM, DM, ECM, IM, ILM, KM (et., etc...) vendors that sell, build and market products really well.  Unfortunately, none of them have a clue about the business requirement for the records management function.  Unlike the ERP and CRM space (where the vendors now see that sales margins are increased by delivering greater business benefit), the IM market is about selling software that in some cases does not even have a business use!!!

Sorry to be so blunt, but you guys at Microsoft (and most of your competitors for that matter) need to get a copy of ISO 15489, read it, most definitely understand it (get help if you don't) and then think about what you are going to build.  Just building to 5015.1 or PROV or MOREQ or PRO-UK (etc., etc.) does not mean that you understand the function, these standards only specify the technical elements that need to be built and not why and what is the business purpose for the function....

In addition, I highly recommend that you become part of the Standards development team.  At least that way you will be able to get involved in the discussions and understand the industry properly.

What are the (missing) functional bits / features being considered for inclusion in the add-on pack ?

(I note there are others who have been asking the same question and was hoping there might be some info on this by now ...)

# Missing Bits: Status update re: DoD 5015.2 certification for MOSS 2007

I as well have a customer who requires more information, rather than less, about what is missing.  They are trying to make strategic decisions now....not later in the year.

This update states "Microsoft is working on a Records Center Add-on Pack for Office SharePoint Server which will provide the additional functionality to meet the DoD 5015.2 criteria."

If there was additional detail about what is being work on, combined with the new feature already listed as available for MOSS 2007.....this customer could make a more informed decision.

Without the additional detail....they are flying blind while trying to make an important choice.

Cheers.....I look forward to forthcoming updates.

# Records Management for MOSS 2007

I have been researching functionality of RM and have numerous questions, i.e. How to move Unclassified Records to Classified? How to send different Content Types to the Records Center? Is there a CRM that worked/works with this product at Microsoft.

A document has been release by AIS regarding the areas of MOSS that are to be changed in order to meet DOD certification it can be found at

RMA-vendors, like EMC2/Documentum argue the chances of MOSS 2007 getting the DoD certification. I think a (positive) signal about results from the certification tests will be wellcomed by many.
