Stir up your best ideas with a group SharePoint blog .. and other end user training content

I'm very happy to see an increasing amount of SharePoint specific content targeted at information workers (i.e. end users) being posted on Office Online at the SharePoint Server 2007 Help and How-to center and in voice guided training courses. We will also release a SharePoint End User Training Kit later this year that companies can deploy onto their SharePoint environment -- more details will be forthcoming. Lastly, we will soon launch the end user focused "Get the 'Point" blog at http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/GetThePoint as the primary channel for the SharePoint product group to engage the information worker community in an interactive dialogue about how SharePoint enables collaboration, business productivity, planning, compliance, and community building to be easy and customizable to suit diverse business needs.

While discussing ways in which a wiki oriented SharePoint site can optimize the brainstorming process by providing a more effective way to capture and share ideas (yes, we will release a "brainstorming" SharePoint application template in a couple of months!), my colleague, Janet Galore, pointed out a useful article that she had recently written about how to stir up ideas and capture them by using a group blog. While Janet's suggestions might seem trivial or obvious to long time readers of this blog, most end users are still struggling with concepts such as blogs and wikis and how to best utilize them along with many other features in SharePoint. The new Get the 'Point blog will focus on these topics.

The rather huge problem we have with using MOSS blogs for company team sites is that the authenticated RSS feeds and the limitations of the RSS Viewer with said authenticated feed breaks the real power of the blog. Without syndication, a blog is just another web site people won't remember to check.

I know there are workarounds like using Kerberos, but since we have a distributed workforce mostly working in an extranet type connection, that's really not workable.

I think some serious materials aimed at end users is long overdue. Lot of stuff aimed at techies but little for the user.

How about client integration? We can't integrate Sharepoint 2007 with our current applications because Sharepoint doesn't work without using active directory. How about better support for forms authentication?

my point also is that - Sharepoint is fun not only for sysadmins - end uses are the business content creators and consumers of that content and we are craving tech info aimed at the power end user. so thanks and using your blog to grow our business capabilities with Sharepoint..

Get The Point seems to be a blank site at the moment.

Glad to see this type of information coming out though, I've had a lot of requests for end-user e-learning from customers.

How about some vodcasts :-)
