This detailed documentation fills gaps in the MSDN/TechNet docs. Love the format of install/config steps with abundant screenshots. Best guide I've seen.

One suggestion for future update:

* our company policies discourage installing iis on database server. Would appreciate diagram and config steps for reporting db residing on db server (e.g. SAN) and reporting server either co-existing with WSS/MOSS WFE or on separate web server.

This is the greatest document in the world :) I had spend numerous hours attempting to configure as well as a technical support call to Microsoft for 3+ hours. This fills in the gaps that I needed to be filled in.

I do have one question:

On page 39-40, Configuring the Database Setup of the report server, you change the "credentials type" to "Windows Credentials" and then set the userid and password to the Reporting Services Service account.

Is this not the same affect as just selecting "Service Credentials" in the drop down.

I am just looking to see the pros and cons. From what I have percieved, this just sets the correct security on the Reporting services databases?

Once again, great document, great format. Wish it had been two weeks earlier. I had just figured out most of what you published within minutes of a collegue sending me the link the day it was published.

If I am following the guide correctly nothing is installed on the database server. You do however create another server for reporting services (web server in affect) and install SQL reporting services only on it.

I have followed the instructions in my test lab and have only two server DC and SQL on server one, RS, WFE and AS on second. It works and we are promoting to our client in production by next week.

Once again, Kudos on the document.

I have modified the default web viewer page that comes with the add-on to have more control. I have also taken advantage of the new subscription model to create some nice encompassing views of subscriptions, I posted the SQL needed to do this on my blog (blog.bpsnw.com).

I have followed the steps in the document but have ran into a snag that I have been unable to resolve.

The first time I ever view a report either directly or in the webpart, it works, but after that I always get the following error in the log file:

If you have MOSS installled in your farm, do you need to install MOSS on the reporting server, or just WSS 3?

This may not be your issue, but I had a similar situation when I installed Sharepoint while logged in as a "temp" user. I then deleted that user because I started using domain accounts. The "author" of the site was still listed as the original and it was marked deleted.

I started to receive very strange "user not found" errors. Using information from http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/2006/05/02/content-deployment.aspx I made the unsupported modifications to the database and it all works.

It sounds like you may have a similar issue.

That didn't solve the issue. Thank you for the information though. I think I may have found a partial reason, but not the resolution. When doing the "Database Setup" section in "Configure Report Server" I get the following warning:

"Setting Connection Info for Reporting Server"

-"Although saving the database connection succeeded, the report server cannot access internal information about this delpoyment to determine whether the current configuration is valid for this edition. If you are configuring a scale-out deployment, be sure that you initialize any new report servers from one that is already part of the deployment."

FYI, I am running MOSS2007 and RS on the same machine which is a domain controller (VPC).

Any other help would be appreciated,

server1 - sharepoint 2007

server2 - sql server 2005

server3 - reporting server 2005

My reporting server is in integration mode. I've uploaded a .rdl(report file) in my personal site with the upload button.When I click on the .rdl file I get an error which goes something like this: Sharepoint error occurred while connecting to the reportserver, login failed for user.

What account is trying to connect, is there any log files I can check to see this?

Is there a guide to setup all accounts used?

I use domain accounts.

Hi,

I have setup SSRS in integration mode.

I'm running RS on a machine separate from my SharePoint site. I've setup WSS3.0 administration to run in Windows Authentication.

I encountered two problems:

1) On the WSS server machine, when i click on the report stored in a document library in WSS, the report is able to run and display properly. Hoewever, when i try it on a separate machine I get the following error:

"An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode."

The RS Web service is running on a domain user account which is also the WSS farm service account.

I've tried setting up IIS on both WSS and RS machines to use NTLM without avail.

2) While deploying the reports using Report Designer from the RS machine to the Sharepoint site (on separate machine) i got the following error:

A connection could not be made to the report server http://kkbepmapp01/. (Microsoft Report Designer)

===================================

Server was unable to process request. ---> The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized. (System.Web.Services)

This is despite the fact that I was able to do the deployment from the WSS server machine.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Im having a problem with installing WSS 3.0 with RS, I have followed the instructions explicitly but when I get to the part about going to the http://servername:8080/reportserver webpage I am getting prompted with a username/password box.

I am installing WSS and SQL 2005 with RS all on the same box. The main difference I noticed is that we didn't have a svrfarmaccount setup, I did this along with the other two accounts as stated in the documentation. Is there some kind of rights that these accounts need?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have a MOSS 2007 installed in integration mode with Reporting Services that uses forms authentication.

When I run a report, the report query for 50,000 records gets executed within a second. But, the reporting services takes more than 3 minutes and sometimes more than that to delivery the report !!.

I need help on this issue..Appreciate resolution to the issue..

I have a deployment of MOSS and Reporting Server. I am attempting to move the reporting server to a new server. I have the new reporting configured and it works and is a farm member. The problem I face is with Sharepoint. It will not grant Database Access to the new server. I have the Integration settings pointing to the new rs site and set to Windows Authentication. I then attempt to Grant Database Access to the new server, it prompts me for a user name and password (which works). It seems okay, however when I reopen the Grant Database Access page, it has reset itself to the original Report Server. Help I really do need to move this report server.

It has been asked before, but I would like it to be more explicit. So you MUST install WSS/Sharepoint on the Reporting/Database server to make this work? I have wasted hours on this...what a very difficult process. Just found this white paper, but have run out of energy on this project.

SharePoint Integration Mode in BASIC Authentication

Hi there,

I am implementing SSRS 2005 in Sharepoint integration mode in a stand alone server and we are having problems with basic authentication.

When the MOSS web application and the Report Server application are in Windows Integrated authentication Everything works fine and we can view the reports and uploads.

But when we switch the MOSS web application into basic authentication and RS stays the same with windows integrated authentication the reports in sharepoint throw 401 unauthorized errors.

Anyone have any fix on this????

Does SSRS 2005 SharePoint integration mode support BASIC authentication???

We have similar issue:

We are running SSRS2005 in Sharepoint Integrated Mode.

RS is on a separate server from the rest of our WFE in sharepoint2007.

It seems all configuration items are good in RS configuration (I originally implemented in Native mode to be sure, then

Configured new databases for integrated mode). Additionally I ran WSS 3.0 and configured the RS server to be part of farm.

From sharepoint CA, I have configured the 3 settings that show up under Application Management > Reporting Services

--under "Manage Integration Settings" we are using "Windows Authentication" mode

--All seems fine in the configuration since we are able to access and manipulate the "Set Server Defaults" page and can set SSRS server settings

But when we go to deploy a report we get the error below…I believe it must be an issue with the double hop from sharepoint to the RS server.

Things to note:

*we are using a single domain account for both the web service and windows service on RS

-necessary to use domain account in our setup according to microsoft

-using 1 service account for both services also OK according to microsft

*we ran adsUTIL.vbs to enable NTLM authentication in IIS on the report server

*sqlserver2005 sp2 implemented on all servers w/ sql components including the client deploying the report

*URLs for DC library, Report Library, and Report Center all verified thru browser and use fully qual'd URLs.

*Content types have been added to SP library

I've follwed this document to the letter and even uninstalled everything and started again a couple of times to ensure I've not missed anything. I've also read around on a number of other articles, kb articles, etc from inside and outside Microsoft, but can't get the final step ("Set server defaults" under the "Reporting Services" heading in MOSS Central Admin) to run. I get the error, "The permissions granted to user [domain\alias] are insufficient for performing this operation". I've tried it with the Farm Admin account and a number of others, and have tried with the account as a computer Local Admin and a SQL sys admin as well as a MOSS farm admin, and ensured that computer Local Admins have full control on the ReportingService2006.asmx. All to no avail!!

Assistance desperately required!

I can't get the reporting services to configure correctly for sharepoint. The report server appears to be correct with regard to sharepoint integration mode. but from moss central admin "Reporting Services"-->"Manage Integration Services" toggling "Trusted Account" to "Windows Authentication" just results in two different errors.

Under "Trusted Account" the error is: "Server was unable to process request. ---> Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'. The request failed with an empty response. "

Under "Windows Authentication" the error is: "Server was unable to process request. ---> The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized. "

Can anyone who has solved this issue please post resolution?

I am having the same issue as Peter. I have tried setspn for both IIS_WPG and WSS_WPG to no avail. I can access the Report Service via web browser, but from the Central Admin site - clicking on "set server defaults" causes an error to be thrown as noted by Peter.

Sirs,

I have sharepoint 2007 SP1 with infrastructure update installed together with sql 2008 reporting service integration and sql 2008 reporting services.

I have reporting web service configured as servername:8080/reportserver in ssrs configuration.

when i connect to sharepoint on servername and create datasource, model and report everything works fine, even windows authentication works fine as sharepoint is configured for kerberos.

when i try to connect on another url like servername.domain.local then it can not find the datasource or model or report

when i try to connect on internet url like portal.organisation.org and try to open the report i get an unexpected error :

- An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode.

How does sharepoint handle the reporting website ? is it proxying for the user or is the user connecting to the report service?

Infrastructure is 2 servers, 1 for sharepoint and reporting services and 1 for sql 2008 database engine

Any help or info is appreciated!!

Found out why the SQL Reporting Integration add-in for SharePoint will not show the required links in Central Administration for my environment.

I have installed the TEST farm als "Stand-alone". That setup version does not support connections to other WFE servers. And SQL Reporting Integration needs to connect to a second WFE.

Might this be the reason for other users aswell?
