Hi Steve,

SPAlertPipeline is a great addition and is basically exactly what I've been looking for. However I'm having trouble using it to do the type of things you describe. You mention sending an alert as a text message or an instant messaging alert. To do that, it would seem that you would need more information about the user to get their cell phone number, etc. In my case I can get this information from the user's profile however there doesn't seem to be any way to get the actual SPUser that the alert is going to from the SPAlertHandlerParams object. Am I missing something? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Mike. It's a little hard to find but it's in there. Look at ahp.a.User - it's an SPUser object and should give you the info you need.

Hi Steve,

Could you please let us know in detail the SPAlertPipeline.

We are implementing the IAlertNotifyHandler to modify the alert message.

If we trigger alerts on multiple documents; it is showing the wrong item id.

To get the item id we are using the below syntax

SPListItem alertitem = list.GetItemById(ahp.eventData[0].itemId);

But the itemId is not coming correctly.

Do let us know how to solve this.

Thanks for a great addition to SharePoint functionality. I've installed the solution in a WSS environment precisely as described including the archive sample. Unfortunately I cannot get it to work after many hours trying - having added code to add event log entries, it appears the OnNotification event isn't being called. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve/debug further? Thanks in anticipation of your help. Kind regards. Ian

Problem with access to config in Custom pipes

Very useful library.

But I faced a problem:

inside custom pipes there is no access to web.config of any MOSS web appl (ConfigurationManager.AppSettings - doesn't work). Does anybody know how to solve this?

The SPAlertPipeline is interesting and does make responding to a single alert in multiple ways easier. But what was present in sharepoint 2003 and now seems to be no longer available is the ability to create a custom results channel. This allowed the developer to offer to the user the ability to chose one or many actions that might occur when the alert is 'fired'. Thus a user could chose to receive an email (or not), to receive a notification in the [My Alerts Summary] on their personal web site (or not), or to receive a notification via [custom solution provided by developer] (or not)..

Gives a tutorial on how to create a custom alert result channels. The techniques and objects in this article seem to be not available in Sharepoint 2007. Specifically the DeliveryChannel class is not present in the Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.Alerts namespace. In fact the entire Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.Alerts namespace is no longer public in the Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.dll.

Do you have any suggestion on how to accomplish creating a custom alerts result channel in Sharepoint 2007?

Customizing alert emails using IAlertNotifyHandler

Hi,

I followed your blog to create a custom handler to intercept the sharepoint alerts and modify the urls(ItemUrl and ListUrl for view item & View list) to a custom url and it worked for the first version of my assembly! But every time I drop an upadated version of my handler ,it never gets picked up and WSS seems to use the older version. I have tried

- iisreset

- restarting WSS timer

- changing build numbers and gac the new version

Any ideas would be helpful.
