I just want to give a little feedback on the MOSS development front. I do not understand why you cannot provide a development version of MOSS that runs on Vista. With the release of Vista SP1, WS2008 and Vista SP1 now share pretty much all of the system files, as can be evidenced by the fact that the symbol packages used are *exactly* the same. The SQL guys have no problem allowing a fully functional version of SQL Enterprise to be run on Vista for development, so why won't you? Using Server as a development environment is a pain and running VPC is annoying as well.

I've tried to install the SP1 slipstreamed verison of MOSS on a clean, fresh installation of Windows Server 2008 along with SQL Server 2005 SP2. MOSS installs fine. When I fire up the Sharepoint Configuration Wizard, I enter the database server name as the hostname of the new Windows Server 2008 machine, I enter an account I created with administrator rights as the database account, and click next on the wizard. At this point the wizard just hangs. No databases are creates on SQL Server, no errors are reported in the event longs, just a hang. I waited overnight and it never recovered or timed out with an error. Any suggestions?

We did the trick of adding the extracted WSS3.0 SP1 and MOSS SP1 to the update folder of the rtm install.

But we have another question

Is it also possible to somehow integrate the (dutch) languagepack (RTM) for WSS3.0 and MOSS plus the (dutch) language pack SP1 for WSS3.0 and SP1 for MOSS to this install set?

In this way we would be able to have a single install to install a server before adding it to the farm.

If this is not possible, how can we add a new server to our farm in the correct way ? With three setup (as we have now) we are not sure at which point in time we should add the server to the farm (hence, run the configuration wizard)

Here we are, over a month and a half later, and we still can't actually get a non-trial version of MOSS with SP1 (slipstream) from MSDN.

Even the concierge guy was at a loss (again).

Can you just use the trial and use a normal key to make it a full version rather then a trial.

The trial period for this product is 180 days. You can convert to a licensed installation at any time during the trial or after the trial has expired by entering the appropriate product key.

The last time I tried this it wouldn't let me set up a farm and I could only select the options for a standalone server install.

Can someone please confirm that if you do install this version you do have FULL functionality after applying a non-trial product key?

installed a multi server and "upgraded" with our enterprise key... Central admin shows enterprise... A&R programs still shows Trial...

Anyone know how to verify that it will not expire in 180 days?

So I called MS for the trial version still being shown in A&R, and I am posting there response to hopefully clearup anyone elses confusion...

This was Microsofts response:

"Problem Description: Wants to make sure that trial version has been upgraded to Full licensed Enterprise version since in add/remove program it’s still showing as trial version even after entering the licensed product key.

Solution: As there was no error during upgrade from trial to full version and after upgrading it says “Office SharePoint Server with Enterprise Client Access License” under Current License in Central Admin we are good to go with it."
