I think it would be valuable to add to this post (or do another post) detailing the technical problems experienced with the Business Data Catalog and Enterprise Search Query problems, as this was a significant holdup for the project, and resulted in the implimentation of the CAML code.

RE: Technical Problems experienced with the BDC and Enterprise Search.

There was an issue with the total result count reported by Enterprise Search.

There's a property for the FullTextSqlQuery called TotalResultsExactMinimum which should be set to a larger number in order to get correct search result counts.

Note: Increasing this number negatively affects performance.

Would have been great to know this when we were faced with the incorrect total result count problem when working through this project.
