"Yamla" blocked Microsoft from updating Wikipedia.

Bummer.  Sometimes I try to make technical edits to wikipedia, but I'm too lazy to set up an account.  I avoid the anti-microsoft pages because they're just to biased, and only focus on technical issueSeems that Microsoft's IP addresses have been blocked from making updates due to "spamming links to external sites."  Lots of people work here, so I have no clue what "Yamla" objected to, but I know I've added links such as to the windows-1252 web page.  (Might just be me, but I'd've thought that a link to the microsoft page for a code page would be appropriate for an article describing a microsoft defined code page ;-).

Personally I think wikipedia's a good source of information (except maybe for the slanted articles).  I'd've thought that it'd be good for everyone if it was easy for industry participants to make technical updates.  I can see where wikipedia wouldn't want to be a PR tool of any company, but I can't see how disallowing technical updates helps anyone.

Blocks on Wikipedia are not supposed to be permanent, unless there is a overwhelming need to (spamming external links is certainly not even in the same ballpark as a permaban offense). That block should be removed within a few days. Also, the blocks are only for people editing as anon. If you create an account (you don't have to reveal who you work for), you can edit without any problems. This is done mostly to discourage troublemakers and to allow other editors a place (your username's talk page) to engage you on your edits (although you aren't necessarily required to if you choose not to). I think the whole thing about linkspamming is probably left-over grief that the overstock.com people caused Wikipedia a few years ago. I think it is helpful for MS insiders to correct mistakes or provide insight into articles.

Well, the first comment is about what I expect :)  I'm just too lazy to make an account.  Maybe I should, but usually its just a quick note or minor correction that I'm interested in making.  I'm more inclined to make sure MSDN gets it right :)
