I’ll try to explain firstly what the PMP does and doesn’t do, and secondly address when you could consider implementing a PMP. Firstly the key benefit of deploying

re: Proxy Management Point: Benefits and Otherwise.

Wonderful article, I'm much less confused than I was before now...

re: Proxy Management Point: Benefits and Otherwise.

I have also noticed that if you deploy a Secondary site but don't make it a PMP, no SMSClient share is created and the clients at that location will install the AC from the MP at the Primary. That equals about 6MB (I think) coming across the WAN per new AC.

re: Proxy Management Point: Benefits and Otherwise.

Just curious about this...as from playing with the sizing/capacity planner...there was nearly zero difference in traffic with a PMP/SS vs simply a DP in the items you mention.

In fact the only significant traffic savings were in Software distribution. Everything else was less than a % or two different.

I originally didnt believe these numbers, but after talking to Craig Morris...he has made me a believer.

re: Proxy Management Point: Benefits and Otherwise.

I did find your article on Proxy Management Points very interesting. Is it possible for you to supply more information on the following points:

1. When a client connects to is MP to look for 'advertisements', does it issue 2 requests: one for the machine policy and another one for the user policy ?

2. Does the total number of advertisements on the MP has an effect on the trafic of these policy requests or the time it takes to the MP to respond (since it has to figure out what advertisements is targeting the client) ?

3. Does the client issue a 'Location request' only for the advertisements that have not been serviced/installed yet ?

Thanks
re: Proxy Management Point: Benefits and Otherwise.

SO does this mean that even though I have set up a management point in my sencondary site, that the clients are still comunicationg across my WAN to the primary MP and flooding my network?

SMS 2003 PMP Concept

I have been reading all this week about MP and PMP and find this article from here : http://blogs.msdn
