If you are using hostheaders then follow the below steps ( Thanks Anders Madsen for providing these steps)

In 4-a-1 add the host header name. For example RetailPortal

in 4-a-2 Add the NLB url fpr example http://epaxsp . After this step testand make sure that the named resolves properly.

In 5-i Ran EP deployment on all servers in the farm other than the farmadmin machine and uncheck configure SharePoint and uncheck create website options.

in 5-ii Ran the EP deployment on the WSS admin web server checked configure Sharepoint and uncheck Create website.

Then add the registry on each webserver HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0/BackConnectionHostNames as a multi string value and added

- servername

- servername FQDN (Fully qualified Domain name)

- NLB name FQDN

- Headername (RetailPortal)

Then open Sharepoint Admin site and create site collection with the custom template for Enterprise Portal.

Why is Headername different from NLB name?
