Direct download available for popular Visual Studio 2005 hotfixes

One of the pieces of feedback that I have consistently heard from a lot of you is to make it easy for you to find, and more importantly have access to the latest Visual Studio 2005 hotfixes.  In the past, you had to contact Microsoft Developer Support directly, and it can get sometimes painful to find what you are looking for particularly when you are in the middle of something and want to get going right then and there.

In response to your feedback, about a month or so ago we started a pilot program to make a subset of our hotfixes be more broadly and easily accessible to our customers.   The goal for the pilot is to allow you to download the most frequently requests Visual Studio 2005 hotfixes and for us to learn whether this helps you.  Hotfixes don’t go through the same level of rigorous testing as service packs and product releases.  Hence, we wanted to be thoughtful about how we roll this out.

The team has been working on making a  broader selection of hotfixes (including .NET 3.0 and VSTS) available for download automatically after they are produced.  Another batch of hotfixes are going to be made available in the next day or two.

For more information about this pilot and a list of hotfixes that are available for download please visit the pilot home page.  If you have a suggestion for a hotfix that should be available for download please leave that suggestion on the DevDiv Connect Feedback Site.

Namaste!

The first link in your article is not working for me. Same for the "pilot home page" link.

Also, any word on the expected release date for VS2005 SP1, which I would assume will incorporate a lot of these fixes? I'm running Vista + VS2005, which of course have some issues running together.

This might help (from https://connect.microsoft.com/content/content.aspx?ContentID=3705&siteid=210&wa=wsignin1.0):

I tried downloading a hotfix, but I get a 'Page Not Found' error. What do I do?

You probably haven't registered your Windows Live ID (formally Passport) account with Connect.  Please visit https://connect.microsoft.com/registration/registration.aspx and register your account. You only have to do this once.

The team is working on putting the final touches on VS 2005 SP1 and in the next few weeks, we hope to get done.  Like always, we want to make sure that we ship Sp1 with the right level of quality.
