Screen capture..

I was working on some documentation and found the need to capture video from the computer screen while I was doing a demo. After trying a number of  free\shareware type utilities I found that Media Encoder does this quite nicely! Works great and compression is excellent.

But, I am open to all suggestions - has anyone come up with either a utiltiy for this? Or some Media Encoder settings to optimize my experience?

And your favourite codec for compression..

There may be others, but with this you can get fullscreen almost lossless and with fast frame rate.. Though unless you have a dual CPU you probably need to cap lossless first so no frames gets dropped and then convert the lossless to mpeg4 for example for best quality. Im not sure if the lossless codec came with it though, their website has more info.

It seems the special codec should come with it.

MSDN TV uses or atleast has used this for years..

Check out vnc2swf. It allows you to create Flash-based demos of your entire desktop. Basically you run a VNC server to mirror your desktop and use this program to record:

Some of the instructions are a bit Unix-specific, but it should also work OK on other operating systems.

At the office we use SnagIt (http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/default.asp)

This allows video capture of the screen (and also multiple other functions).
