Hello world
I recently realized that blogs are providing more and more perspectives and data points that are useful in my daily work -- this is a great time to get involved with the community.
So I'm getting this off the ground as a forum to share news and thoughts on Microsoft Speech Server and to discuss themes and trends for the speech industry at large. How can we all keep on making spoken dialog applications better for users and better for our partners and customers?
I'll try and spare most of the personal stuff, although I can't guarantee that an occasional fathering faux-pas and/or hangover description won't make it in from time to time.
Some background: I joined Microsoft in 1999 as part of the acquisition of Entropic Ltd, a UK speech technology company. I have worked on acoustic modelling, customer apps, dialog modelling frameworks, speech markup languages (notably SALT) and data analysis tools. I'm interested lately in data-driven design and tuning techniques, and that will be a theme for some of these discussions.
