SpeechTek

I went to SpeechTek in San Francisco this week, but only for a day. Last year, SpeechTek was a humongous event for Microsoft, featuring Bill Gates as one of the keynote speakers and a big booth as we launched the new Microsoft Speech Server. This year was much smaller; we didn't even have a booth. The entire show fit into one of the Marriott Hotel ballrooms: But we do care about SpeechTek and a bunch of us came down for the show. I think it's probably more important as a meet-and-greet event, because you know that anybody who's anybody in Speech (particularly call center-oriented telephony speech) will be in town. I spent the day in meetings, and managed to walk through the exhibits a bit during the afternoon.

I was looking for you to say hi, but no MS made it much harder :)

Hope you had a good time in SF. The weather was sometimes cooperative, othertimes not.

Microsoft wasn't the only one without a booth. I noticed HP, AT&T/SBC, Nuance, Vicorp, Audium, Sun, and tons of others weren't there as well..
