Spanish and French for Speech Server
Casey missed out on our announcement of the new Spanish and French versions of Speech Server and I feel bad because it looks like I never got around to posting the news.
We're incredibly happy about the new beta language packs which you can download
here.
You can download (for free) the beta versions of our newest Spanish and French (Canadian) language models, which work with the speech application SDK. We are developing a whole bunch more models too -- that's where my group spends lots of its time -- so expect to see more languages coming from us regularly. The cool thing about language packs is that we can release them "out of band", meaning completely separate from the big releases of Microsoft Speech Server. If we make some special improvements to the Spanish pack, say, we can just go ahead and release a web download that everyone on MSS can use right away. Similarly, when later we have language packs for languages beyond French and Spanish, you'll be able to use it right away, without waiting for a new version of the SDK. Seems like an obvious thing to users and developers, but it was harder to do than you might think. Anyway, we've solved the problem now so expect to see plenty more languages from us in the future.
