Our presentation
Our presentation is over, and I’m very pleased with the warm reception we got. We had six full tables, each with ten people, so something like 60 attendees — way more than I would have expected. Isabel Trancoso is wonderful: she was the organizer of the Interspeech event, and she helped us get the invitations to the Portuguese attendees. I’m sure she was unbelievably busy getting everything together for the event, so it was especially nice of her to support us.
We didn’t really make an “announcement”, in the official PR sense. We just wanted to gather as many people in the Portuguese speech community as possible, to tell them about our new proposal to start doing Portuguese language development in-country. We do too much in Redmond right now, but languages should belong to the people who speak them. It sounds pretty obvious, but our “new” proposal is that we want to start doing language-specific work inside the countries that are affected.
You can see my presentation here. We’re hiring for a Director position right now: somebody with an interest or background leading a team of people to do software development in Portugal. If you’d like to hear more, let me know.
