What's on your Treo?
I spent the afternoon getting my Treo working the way I like it. I had been having a terrible time with ActiveSync over the past month and I finally decided to do something about it: I hard-reset the device and started over. Boy, I don’t know why I didn’t do that a lot sooner. Reconfiguring really wasn’t that much of a hassle – it took maybe 30 minutes altogether. Then I was able to finally install a bunch of apps that I’ve wanted for a while:
- Office Communicator: lets me call or IM anybody at Microsoft, plus reconfigure my own phone status and forwarding options from my Treo.
- Spb Pocket Plus: makes the Today screen a lot more useful.
- Kasparov Chessmate: so my son can play when he’s bored.
- Traffic: a Microsoft-internal traffic app designed for the Puget Sound area. I had been using this app previously, but it was an old version that didn't work nearly as well.
- SOTI Pocket Controller: lets me control the Treo from my PC (make screen shots, etc.)
Now I'm very pleased. I put most of the apps on the external storage card (I have a 256MB SD card) so I still have plenty of onboard memory (50MB storage, 6MB storage). The whole device seems to run much better.
If you're not happy with your Treo's app situation, my advice is to go ahead and do the hard reset. It took me about an hour start-to-finish to get everything back to normal, and now I'll be much more efficient. I was pleasantly surprised at how much the Treo remembered, even through the hard reset. For example, all my favorites in Pocket IE were still there (remembered from the previous ActiveSync on my PC), and it basically configured the Outlook email automatically once I gave it my username/password. I was afraid that I'd lose some data, but almost nothing of importance is gone.
How about you? What's on your Treo?
