Silent speech recognition

DoCoMo, the Japanese mobile phone company, has a project for doing what they call "mime speech recognition".  You move your throat and face muscles in the way you do while speaking, only you don't project any air, so you are effectively silent.

TRN had an article a few years back about the same sort of technology.  Again, the idea is to make something useful for doing recognition in circumstances where you can't speak out loud.
