No power at Microsoft

What a storm!  Work was cancelled today, and my home on Mercer Island has been completely in the dark since 9:30pm Thu night.  My DSL works and I’m using my UPS to get online here and there.  My house is fine – a fallen tree knocked over part of my fence, but otherwise the only real annoyance is the lack of electricity.  The neighborhood is littered with downed trees, so it’s difficult to drive around.

Ugh, the second big storm in three weeks.  And the winter has only started!

Yup, it was a pretty amazing storm.  I'm up at the north end of 405 and am fortunate enough to have power right now.  Seems like the entire Eastside is down.

When I wrote on Thursday night that there was storm raging, I wasn't joking. Here's a pic courtesy

I'm wondering if people are blaming PSE, or city gov't or someone else for the situation they are now in, four - five days after this storm?

Or, are they taking responsibility themselves for not being prepared for several days without electricity...

Emergency service orgs like the Red Cross have been telling people that they need to prepare for three days or more for such events.

Mercer Island residents have been told to prepare for 7 to 10 days or more.  How many have provisions -- including heat, and food, and lights (candles, batteries) stoves etc. for this amount of time?  5%, 10%, less??

What if this had been a major earthquake and the I-90 bridges were down, along with power, water, sewage pumping, etc.?

This experience needs to cause action to prepare ourselves for a major disaster...

Most people blame the power company, but that's just because we all need to blame somebody.  I'm not sure what can or should be done about it, though it is extremely frustrating.

I'm one of those people who has plenty of food/lights/etc, but frankly, it's not making things any easier.  I'm not worried about starvation or death (thank goodness) so all those candles don't compensate for the frustration that I just wish I had some electricity.

PSE is obviously at fault simple because over 10+ years I live in East side they did *nothing* to bury electrical cables. And I mean *nothing*. So every wnd turns into a disaster. Yeah, burying is an expense and that's where monopoly comes hande - you can spend years doing nothing and still make profit. Besides, we lose power in *rain* wihtout any wind. And in ice too. I feel like I am living somewhere in Bangladesh, not in the most technologically advanced and powerful country in the world.
