New Microsoft Director likes Speech

Reed Hastings, founder of Netflix is a new member of the Microsoft Board of Directors.  Now in addition to his day job mailing movies to happy Netflix subscribers like me, he joins the ranks of the tiny pool of people who have "the guts to fire [Balmer] if that's the right thing for the company."   Good thing he also has this to say about future technologies:

It’s great that PowerPoint works well today, but most of the really hard problems – vision, speech, understanding, parallel computing – are still largely unsolved. Microsoft has so much opportunity ahead that it makes me dizzy.

Fortunately it looks like Steve is listening.
