i installed 'SQL Server 2008 Express SP1' on win2k8r2 rc but Management Studio Express did not install. all of the MS links to 'SQL Server 2008 Express with tools' or 'Management Studio Express standalone' are non-sp1.

how do i install tools for my 2k8 express sp1 and/or when is MS going to release the 'SQL Server 2008 Express with tools sp1' package?

We are not planning to release the Tools or Advanced Services package with SP1 pre-integrated. You can read the reason for this at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlexpress/thread/6b31a657-fe8a-4d72-a82f-b795f8b1daa3.

If you've already installed the SQL Express 2008 Express core package, you can install Management Studio from the links on http://www.microsoft.com/express/sql/download. Once that is installed you should scan your computer using Microsoft Update and it will detect the need to apply SP1 for Management Studio and allow you to select and install it from there.
