SQL Server Storage Engine

Splits and unions...

Hey folks,

This is my last blog post on the SQL Server Storage Engine blog as I've made the decision to leave Microsoft and join Kimberly running her company, SQLskills.com. This lets me indulge my passion for teaching and consulting full-time and lets me work with my best friend. My last day at Microsoft is August 31st and from September 1st I'll be blogging at http://www.sqlskills.com/blogs/paul/. I'd like to thank all of you for reading my posts here, commenting and emailing me, and I really hope you'll continue to read this blog, as well as my new one :-)

More importantly, yesterday (Sunday, July 29th 2007), Kimberly Tripp and I were married at The Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland, WA, with around 100 friends and family in attendance. Below is a photo of us courtesy of our fabulous photographer, John Mitchell.

Here's a link to his blog with some great pictures of the BBQ we threw on Friday at our house.

Thanks and best regards to you all!

Congratulations with the marriage, of course all the SQL Server DBA's in the world are jealous now :-)

It is sad that you are leaving Microsoft for us but I suppose it will be a good thing for you doing what you like most.  Good luck with SQLSkills (and Kimberly)!

Many congratulations to the two of you.

While its sad that you're leaving Microsoft (sad because we'll be missing out on this inside technical information), its nice to see your following your interests! All the best.

About Paul Randal - MSFT

Paul started in the industry in 1994 working for DEC on the VMS file system and check/repair tools. In 1999 he moved to Microsoft to work on SQL Server, specifically on DBCC. For SQL Server 2000, he concentrated on index fragmentation (writing DBCC INDEXDEFRAG and DBCC SHOWCONTIG) plus various algorithms in DBCC CHECKDB. During SQL Server 2005 development Paul was the lead developer/manager of one the core dev teams in the Storage Engine, responsible for data access and storage (DBCC, allocation, indexes & heaps, pages/records, text/LOB storage, snapshot isolation, etc). He also spent several years rewriting DBCC CHECKDB and repair. For SQL Server 2008, Paul managed the Program Management team for the core Storage Engine to become more focused on customer/partner engagement and feature set definition. In 2007, after 8.5 years on the SQL Server team, Paul left Microsoft to join his wife, Kimberly Tripp, running SQLskills.com and pursuing his passion for presenting and consulting. Paul regularly presents at conferences and user groups around the world on high-availability, disaster recovery and Storage Engine internals. His popular blog is at http://www.sqlskills.com/blogs/paul/.
