SSDS Software Developer Kit (SDK) Beta Released on MSDN

Just learnt from Mohan Vanmane that the SQL Server Data Services (SSDS) SDK Beta is now live on MSDN.  You can get it from here.  The documentation is available here.  The SDK includes the command line tool and the SSDS Explorer that I demonstrated at TechEd 2008.  These are beta version of the tools.  So the team would appreciate if you can give it a spin and let us know what you like, what you do not like and above all file bugs that you see.  I should mention that you do need a SSDS account to use these tools.

The team is seeking feedback that you can provide through our fourm here.  Here is an excerpt from the email that the team sent out today:

"As we continue to build on our tools strategy,  we would like to hear from you on how we could improve the developer experience when working with SSDS. The feedback we seek is primarily related to what tools and/or libraries would help you most when developing applications for SSDS. These can be targeted for development, data management, performance, debugging or any other area of SSDS for which you would like us to provide better support."

We appreciate all feedback.

Would love your feedback.  Also I am personally curious to find out if there is any interest in the community to take over the code base for these tools.

Haven't try the tools.

It seems there is a huge overlapping on what the community is building. I myself have built a 'SSDS Explorer' which allow user to edit data on data grid and persist back to SSDS, and able to export data from SQL Server to SSDS etc.

It would be better to release the source code to Codeplex so that we can pull the bit and pieces together to make a better 'SSDS Management Studio'....and not wasting time making something others have made.

Good feedback. Makes sense to me personally.  What is most likely is that Visual Studio pieces and SQL Server Management Studio pieces, we will take on.  What we see is customers using SQL Server and SSDS together in some scenarios who would like an integrated development and management experience.

At the same time, there are developers who are not using SQL Server Management Studio or Visual Studio who would want good tools to use with SSDS.  So tools like SSDS command line tool, SSDS Explorer, we would help seed and let the community build out from there.

It looks like some settings are stored in the "Program Files" folder. Because of this I had to give my limited user write access to the program files.
