So… What do you think?

One of the most important pieces of information a product team can get is an understanding of what people think about their product, and how they are using it. My question for you is…What do you think? How has your experience been thus far? We would love to know – the good and the bad.

So please feel free to either post a comment or drop me an email (david.robinsonATmicrosoft.com).

Also, don’t forget the SQL Azure documentation can be found here and the SQL Azure Getting Started forum is located here.

It's overpriced. ;-)  I like the ideas, but I just can't commit to putting a database in the cloud if I have to pay $100 per month, per shard, and manage the sharding myself.

First of all, a comment on post regarding being overpriced. That is nonsense. $100/month for 10GB database with virtually unlimited scalability and mass redundancy is hardly overpriced.

With that said, the 10GB limitation, while I understand at least some of the reasons behind it, is pretty limiting. This basically forces us to use a blend of both SQL Azure and Azure Storage, instead of relying on one or the other. That's a risky move, as Azure Storage Tables will most certainly mature over time, most importantly the ability to index multiple keys, making it a lot more likely to phase out SQL Azure due to its storage constraints.

I'll be interested to see what the SQL Azure team comes up with.

Is there an ETA on when we will be able to use the Visual Studio Server Manager and/or SQL Server Management Studio with the SQL Azure database?

Are there any plans to support viewing of execution plans?

I also agree with the above poster on the 10GB limitation, and I hope that will increase with time.

David, I like what I see so far, but think there's still a lot that could be improved. Increasing the 10GB limit is high on my list, as is supporting more T-SQL (particularly Bulk Insert :) ).

Stebet, you can use SSMS with SQL Azure, but not the object explorer in SSMS.
